A story that takes place in New York City in the 1920’s of the narrator, Nick Carraway, as he befriends the wealthy and mysterious Jay Gatsby and helps him try and reunite with his former girlfriend. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this book. On the surface level, it is a very simple and straightforward read. Only 9 chapters, easy to follow, not a very complicated vocabulary. But what I enjoyed about this story was how there were so many aspects with hidden, deeper meanings. This is what really made the story worth reading for me. There was always something that I could analyze, and that kept me engaged. I also really loved how well all the characters were developed. I really felt like I knew these characters on a personal level, and I was always curious on what they would do next. The only thing that kind of annoyed me that each chapter was a completely different situation. I wish there was better flow in between the chapters instead of it doing a complete flip to a new storyline. That being said, this would be great start for anyone looking to get into classics. It is a fairly easy read that still deals with very important subject matter that leaves you thinking.
