F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is a beautifully written novel that captures the glitz and glamour of the 1920s while exploring deeper themes like ambition, love and the American Dream. The classic tells the story of Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, and his obsessive pursuit of his former love, Daisy Buchanan, during the Roaring Twenties. Narrated by Nick Carraway, the novel explores themes of wealth, class and the elusive nature of the American Dream, ultimately revealing the tragic consequences of Gatsby's idealized vision of the past. Set against the backdrop of lavish parties and moral decay, the story serves as a cautionary tale about the corrupting influence of wealth and the impossibility of recapturing lost time. The characters are complex and intriguing, and the story’s vivid descriptions make it easy to get lost in its world. That said, the book can be a little tricky to follow at times, with its non-linear timeline and heavy use of symbolism. It’s definitely a novel that asks you to pay attention and think about what’s beneath the surface. Still, it’s a classic for a reason, offering a story that’s as thought-provoking as it is captivating.
