The final book of the Truly Devious trilogy, Maureen Johnson’s “The Hand on The Wall” is a satisfying conclusion to the series, even with its unnecessary amount of filler.
Ellingham Academy is reeling from three deaths around and at the campus, all while the tragic murder and kidnappings of the twentieth century remain unsolved. However, Stevie Bell (our continuous protagonist, an amateur detective), has discovered the identity of Truly Devious. This discovery is marred by the disappearance of her housemate David, the threat of Ellingham closing due to the unsolved deaths, and the heavy winter storm headed towards the mountains.
With these threats all swirling through the school, Stevie and her housemates have to band together to solve the current deaths as well as how to fully uncover the buried mysteries of the past. I would give this finale three out of a possible five stars for its compelling characters and resolution, but lack of proper filling.
