Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third entry in the Harry Potter series and is written by J.K. Rowling. In this book, Harry Potter once again experiences an unusual summer when things go wrong with his Aunt Marge and Potter finds himself running away from the Dursleys. While doing so, Harry sees a mysterious figure that he later finds out might be the Grim, a bad omen that appears in front of the unlucky before disaster strikes. This disaster has looks to have taken the form of Sirius Black, a mad serial killer who has somehow escaped from Azkaban. Cautious and spooked, Harry enters his third year of Hogwarts with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger when it’s discovered that Black’s next victim is Harry Potter! Knowing that Black is powerful enough to break into Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic has placed Dementors, the mysterious and powerful prison guards from Azkaban, in Hogwarts to protect Harry and his classmates. Everything is not as it seems, however, as Harry Potter encounters mysterious creatures, meets new friends, discovers more secrets, and enters his third year of Hogwarts with a new Dark Arts teacher. If you thought The Chamber of Secrets was a blast, then this third book is a nuclear bomb! One of my personal favorites of the series, this book has a certain emotional punch that the other books weren’t focused on. Rowling manages to add more notable and memorable characters into a story full of established and iconic characters, and the best part about these books is the interactions between them. Not to be outshined, the plot was arguably the best one in the series so far, and Rowling added many unpredictable twist and turns that still made sense. At this point, Rowling is just trying to one-up herself when it comes to these books, because the consistency of quality writing she produces is riddikulus (I’m too punny). Enjoy!
