The Hate U Give is a breathtaking piece of work that follows the story of a sixteen-year-old teenager named Starr Carter. Starr suddenly witnesses the murder of her childhood best friend, Khalil Harris, as he was shot three consecutive times by a cop...for holding a hairbrush. Khalil’s death makes national headlines and sparks outrage across the country. What will Starr do as she debates whether or not to let her voice be heard?
I loved this book due to the way it educated readers about the struggle black people face and the situations that happen far too many times. Unable to put the book down and only able to keep turning to the next page, this book was just absolutely stunning due to the gripping suspense, magnificent writing style, and bewitching cover. As accurate portrayals of racial violence and injustice in society are spotlighted, The Hate U Give is powerful, insightful, and hugely educational.
