House of Flame and Shadow is the third installment of the Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas. Bryce Quinlan has landed herself in a different universe, but one not too different from her own…familiar characters interact in new ways as Bryce hunts for a way to return home to her friends and to her mate, Hunt Athalar. Meanwhile, in Crescent City, Bryce’s friends and allies must fight more dangerous enemies than ever before, and anxiously await her return. Several males in the group, including Hunt and Bryce’s brother, Ruhn, are locked up, and the others must figure out a way to rescue them that doesn’t end in death. This is all setting the stage for a dramatic battle against fierce foes.
I give this book four stars because it really wraps everything together nicely. Maas is able to interconnect her realms in a way that touches your soul and brings forth emotion. Relatives across universes are a common theme here in the Maas worlds. Lidia Cervos really earned a place in my heart this book, and her being related, while distantly, to a certain fireheart (ifykyk) makes her storyline all the more touching. I love how this book ties up some loose ends, but leaves many to be discovered in what will hopefully be a fourth novel.
