The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros follows a girl named Esperanza who moved to Chicago when she was 12. The story is about how she faces challenges but still grows from them. It is a coming of age story and is very inspiring and poetic. The novel was replete with so many events that take place in a person’s life.
I enjoyed reading this novel because it doesn’t only revolve around one plot but alternates between different events. This novel had a positive impact on me and taught me a lot of things. One of the things it taught me was that wanting more is okay but you shouldn’t take anything for granted and should be happy with what you have. I give this book a 5/5.
