The Hunger Games is an addictive tale that steals you away into a dangerous country. Katniss Everdeen lives in a dark world woven with injustice. She fights to survive every day. Her family staves off starvation while the president and others in the Capitol lounge around with an abundance of food. Yearly these very men and women raised in laziness enjoy the Hunger Games, an invention of the Capital to keep the poor dying families in check. Katniss Everdeen is selected to join in this tradition and soon is sent into an arena full of other unlucky victims like herself. They fight to the death for a chance at survival, but only one can claim the trophy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It surpassed my expectations, giving me both adventure and character development. I anticipated some of the plot twists, but they were never boring. The reader is pulled from one devastating event to the next before finally shown the resolution. I liked Katniss and her fiery personality. It brought life to a dying world. I recommend this book to anyone who likes dystopian books with clever heroines.
