Avery Kylie Grambs is barely scraping by, trying to make money from her job and make it through high school, but her future changes in an instant when Tobias Hawthorne, a millionaire philanthropist, leaves her with a billion-dollar fortune. The downside is Avery has no idea who Tobias is and on top of that, in order to receive her inheritance, she must move into the mysterious Hawthorne House, full of unexpected riddles and puzzles. Forced into a world of wealth that is unfamiliar to Avery, she must play their games to survive.

It is difficult for me to find a mystery that remains intriguing and keeps me curious, yet this book checked all my boxes. The Inheritance Games was a very well written book and with her descriptive language, Barnes made it simple to create a vivid picture in my mind when reading each scene. The endings of mystery books are generally easy for me to determine, however, with this book I was left in complete suspense until the mystery was revealed. The various plot twists and surprises were thrilling, and I could not put the book down! I love that this book didn’t stick to just one genre, but instead included aspects of mystery, romance, and drama. I recommend this book to YA readers and lovers of a good riddle!
