Evie Thomas has stopped believing in love. After her parents’ divorce and her dad proposes to the woman he cheated with, Evie has cemented her opinion on love. Which is, to be clear, that it must be avoided at all times in order to preserve sanity. That is, until she meets X. Her attraction to him is unexpected, and him being her new dance partner isn’t helping matters. X is very different from Evie, in a good way. They sign up for a dance competition together, with only a few weeks to prepare. The strangest thing keeps happening to Evie, too. She sees a couple kiss, and she is struck with a vision of how their relationship began, and how it will end. Evie has to juggle her cute new partner, an impending competition, and this new power of sorts all while supporting her father and future stepmom in their preparations.
This was a cute book, but not completely a feel-good warm and fuzzy due to the ending. Tragic, doomed love, but written quite well. The foreshadowing was easy to see and predict with, but it wasn’t overly obvious. I liked this just as much, if not more, than Everything, Everything, because this had more of a real-life feel to it. Told from the perspective of a realist, most aspects in this book are seen as glass-half-empty, which is completely at odds with the romantic interest, which does build some interesting dialogue. That being said, I felt that the main characters were a bit bland, but I mean it's a YA romance, what can I say? Overall, I would rate this book a four point five out of five. Impressed yet again by Nicola Yoon, I highly recommend it for people that enjoyed her other books.
