Insurgent by Veronica Roth is the second book in the dystopian Divergent series. Tris’ city has always been made up of five factions, but when two of the factions team up to target another, the future of the city becomes uncertain. After Tris and Tobias ended the attack, they were forced to flee, hiding from the government leaders who would kill them for their acts of insurgence. During this time, Tris begins to question what the true goal of the attack was, and she will not stop searching until she uncovers the truth. That is, until she is faced with the reality of her situation. She must sacrifice herself to save those she loves. Tris is a strong divergent, and her divergence might be what saves herself, along with the rest of her city.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I love reading fantasy and dystopian series, and this book was a perfect fit. This book focuses a lot on some of Tris’ internal struggles, and I enjoyed reading as she found her way through her new and complicated situation. Throughout the book, Tris and Tobias were faced with numerous hard choices, and the book does a good job of showcasing the repercussions of their actions, not just on each other, but on the whole city. This book had many exciting twists that I didn’t see coming, and I was always wondering what was going to happen next. I really liked this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an exciting dystopian series.
