Interstellar is a 2014 science fiction film by renowned director Christopher Nolan. Set in the mid-21st century, the plot depicts a futuristic version of earth. It is not the extremely advanced technological world we imagine but a place of destruction. Governments and countries are falling apart, the environment has completely changed, and people are barely able to grow any food due to water shortages. Joseph Cooper, a former NASA test pilot, is the main character in this movie. After a dust storm leaves weird patterns on his daughter’s bedroom floor, they investigate the patterns, revealing geographic coordinates that lead them to a secret NASA facility. The current mission of this facility is to colonize a habitable planet with 5000 frozen embryos to ensure humanity’s survival. Joseph goes on this mission to ensure the survival of the human race, leaving his kids behind.

This movie was fascinating and highly complex just like many of Nolan’s other works. The movie had me wondering about quantum physics, parallel universes, wormholes, time dilation, and other complex topics for weeks. The plot itself was interesting but very complex as well. Because of this, it might be boring for some people who prefer to watch movies as lighthearted entertainment instead of complex documentary-like films. Other than the plot, the visual execution was beyond words. The setting and surroundings were truly otherworldly and visual effects were used so well to represent phenomena that are basically impossible to replicate or even non-existent. Overall, fantastic movie. An absolute must watch!
