It Ends With Us is the story of a young woman named Lily Bloom. Lily Bloom is in her early twenties when the book takes place, and it starts out with her meeting one Ryle Kincaid. They fall in love hard and fast, and get married relatively quickly. They think they’ll be the perfect match because of Lily’s quirkiness and Ryle’s cleverness (he’s on track to be a surgeon). Over the course of their relationship Ryle proves he doesn’t quite have the capability of a healthy and nurturing relationship. Things get even rockier when Lily’s first love Atlas comes back into the picture, and a pregnancy with Ryle. Lily ultimately decides to protect herself and her future child by leaving Ryle and pursuing a new life for herself.

This book is personally one of my least favorite books I have ever read. It starts out okay, but quickly goes downhill. Lily as a character is hard to like because of her constant flakiness and unrelatable oddities. It also was a difficult read due to the fact that Lily doesn’t leave Ryle after the first, or even the first few, abusive incidents. I understand that the book is supposed to showcase how it can be hard to leave that type of situation but the writing was not well executed. It almost appears as if the abusive relationship is glorified, which is definitely not something we want people to take in as positive. Overall, this book is not one that I would recommend to anyone due to it being frustrating and slightly boring.
