Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë is a classic novel that follows the life of Jane Eyre in the Victorian Era. Jane grew up with a tough childhood as she was adopted by her unkind aunt who eventually sent Jane to boarding school. However, Jane always maintained a strong spirit and took it upon herself to learn and be educated. After she graduates from boarding school, she finds a job as a governess at Thornfield mansion to teach Adele, the niece of Mr. Rochester who owns the mansion. Jane becomes more involved in Mr. Rochester's life and learns more about the troubling aspects of his past.
This was an interesting novel to read. I chose it to improve my reading skills and understanding of classic literature. I would say that the first two thirds of the novel were quite slow, but the plot started to move along more after that point. It was intriguing to read about Thornfield mansion and how Jane perceives it for its beauty and awe. This book explores themes of social class, gender roles and independence. I give this book a four out of five stars.
