This work by Shakespeare is a historical drama. As such, it depicts the events prior to, leading up to, and after the murder of the historical figure Julius Caesar. The play explains the role of authoritative power, selfish interest, and conflicting thoughts on the war of mankind. Caesar himself wanted to be the almighty leader of the Roman Empire but was killed by individuals who predicted tyranny if such was to come to fruition. However, after his death, some figures wanted his power for themselves, while others were deeply unsettled by his murder. This play also highlights the importance of rhetorical and persuasive speech, and how a strong speech can influence the thoughts of masses of people. The complex characters within the play also intrigue me also. The only faults I can notice is that it can be difficult to follow Shakespeare’s language for anyone who is unfamiliar with his work. I recommend reading or watching this play if you fancy quality entertainment and thinking. I give this play four marks from a maximum of five.
