Percy Jackson: The Last Olympian is the fifth and final book describing the long-winding fight of Percy Jackson and fellow half-bloods against the Titan Lord Kronos and his demonic army, and if you haven't read the first four books of the series (The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, and The Battle of the Labyrinth), I highly recommend that you read them first. The story starts off with news of the long-anticipated war between the Olympians and the Titans finally beginning. The ancient Titan Kronos has finally been resurrected, his spirit inhabiting the body of Luke, Annabeth and Thalia's childhood friend, and one of the many demigods turned to Kronos' side. Preparations for war are made by the half-bloods, and soon they face the full might of Kronos' army at Olympus, as they are the only thing standing between the monsters and the gateway of the Greek Gods. In the face of overwhelming odds against them, the demigods band together in a last stand against the forces of evil of the Titan Lord Kronos.
The Last Olympian was probably the most action-filled book in the series, filled with suspense and plenty of battles that had me on hanging onto every word on the page. I also loved how Luke's tragic backstory was woven into the main storyline as part of Percy's preparations for the war--the story of his childhood almost had me in tears, and overall, it really added to the depth of the plot and helped us understand Luke better as a character. However, my favorite part of the entire book was probably the end, in which Percy and Annabeth finally confess their feelings for each other--a moment I had been waiting for since the very first book. Overall, this book was a thriller, as well as the rest of the books in the series--another five-star worthy novel. Another great read for any young teen who has read the first four books and is dying to experience another one of Percy's wild adventures!
