Rick Riordan’s final installment in the Percy Jackson series comes in amazing fashion with The Last Olympian. The book begins with Percy and Beckendorf attacking an enemy ship, however the mission goes haywire and Beckendorf is killed. Percy then travels to get bathed in the river Styx, something his enemy Luke had done previously. After getting bathed, Percy and the people of Camp Half-Blood travel to New York to defend Olympus, which is left unguarded due to the gods fighting Typhon. Percy and company lose a lot of friends, however gain some more allies throughout the fight, helping them win. Percy then makes each god promise to claim their children, and he and Annabeth are able to live happily ever after, until the next series...
This book continues everything great about the series. Especially, with the whole Luke, Annabeth and Percy dynamic. When Percy and Nico visit Luke’s mom, the readers finally understand why Luke had turned. The whole dynamic is brought to a great end when Annabeth tells Luke he promised they would always be family, something that hits hard for Luke, causing him to fight against Kronos who is occupying his body. Even smaller twists throughout the book like Selena being the spy add a great depth to the story. I would rate this a five out of five. Definitely, the easiest choice of five stars so far. This book uses everything good about the past ones and ties it up in a great way.
