A 12 year old, Percy is diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. While on a field trip, Percy’s
teacher, Ms. Dodds, pulls him over to punish him, but instead she turns into a monster and tries
to attack him. Percy gets saved by his Latin teacher, Chiron, and is taken to Camp Half-Blood.
At Camp Half-Blood, Chiron introduces Percy to Mr. D, the god of wine. He is then taken to the
Hermes cabin because they didn’t know what godly parent he belonged to. Later, they find out
that he belongs to Poseidon, god of the sea. Then, there was a Hellhound attack which made
Chiron go on a quest with Grover and Annabeth to recover Zeus’s Lightning Bolt from Poseidon,
who they think stole it.
In my opinion, this book was really good. Even though it started out a little bit boring and
slow, the speed and suspense really picked up by the end of the book. I really like how Rick
Riordian chose how he wrote it and I would definitely recommend it. 5 stars!
