Lord of the Flies revolves around a group of young boys that become trapped on an island. They are left to survive by themselves as they attempt to discover civilization, chaos, and the impact of an individual on a community. The book allows for the discussion of many critical aspects of civilization, the fragility of communities, and the power of self-interest. Alongside containing these broad topics, the novel also depicts the evolution of the boys into a short-term perspective from the previous outlook of a more community-based long-term group organization. Each character portrays a part of the community reflective of the themes in the book.

The depth and insight this book brings makes it deeply enjoyable to read. There is content in the book that may not be suitable for squeamish individuals. This book can be enjoyed by younger and older individuals alike. Five marks from a maximum of Five.
