Lord of the Flies is an exploration of human nature and the mask of civilization that keeps our instincts in check. The novel is set on a deserted island after a plane crash and highlights the boys' decline from order into chaos as they try to govern themselves. However, it slowly turns into savagery. Golding uses characters like Ralph, Piggy, Jack, and Simon to represent different parts of society, morality, and human behavior. The conch shell becomes a powerful symbol of order and democracy. Golding’s story captures the beauty of the island alongside the boys’ fears. It raises questions about human nature: Are we inherently good or destined for cruelty when society collapses?
I love this book so much because it is so raw and different from any other book I have read. I loved the powerful themes of fear and the structure of society. It really makes you question how humans really are underneath the surface. However, I do feel like the book lacks diverse perspectives which can make it difficult for readers to relate to certain characters. Although Lord of the Flies is still an unforgettable classic makes you keep reading until the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good adventure book that will make you question society because it is an amazing combination of the two.
