Lord of The Flies is a very interesting and popular book depicting the concept of human nature, society, and morality. This book takes place during World War II when a group of British boys get stuck on an island from their plane. There were older boys on the island like Ralph, Piggy, Simon, Jack, and the choir boys who were about the ages of twelve to fourteen. The younger boys included Jonny, Henry, and Jack are about the age of six. The boys came together after Ralph blew the conch which Piggy gave him the idea to. The boys had to make rules and figure out and execute a plan together to get off the island, so they voted Ralph the leader based on democracy and because he was the one who originally got them all together. Ralph's idea is to make a fire where everyone takes part in doing different things so that they can signal a boat and leave. When Sam and Eric were on duty to look after the fire at one point Jack took them to hunt instead which put out the fire when a boat was passing by. This angered Ralph and started the two different groups the Hunters and the Gathers. As time went on Jack and the Hunters became obsessed with hunting and killing pigs, more than wanting to be saved. The littluns followed along with Jack and they all began to lose the sense of rule they had put down into their society. The last straw was when the boys were being savages, and Simon came to tell them that their fear of the Beastie was just a dead parachute man and not some sort of monster. It frightened them so much they ended up killing him. This was a loss of innocence. Towards the very end of the book, they all become savages and many end up dying and killing each other without the absence of society and the Nature of Evil within human nature.

This was a very interesting book showing many thought-provoking questions about human nature. I loved this book and would recommend it to middle-grade readers and readers interested in morality, leadership, and societal collapse.
