The Mary Shelley Club is a book that follows the members of a horror club, each with their secrets. The book takes place in Manchester Prep, a rich private school in Manhattan. The scholarship student, Rachel Chavez, is haunted by an accident that resulted in a murder. However, her fresh start turns rotten after she accidentally goes head on with the most popular girl at school, Lux. After a mini investigation, Rachel figures out the prankster, or pranksters, that caused the situation with Rachel and Lux. An arcane club, known as the Mary Shelley Club, holds the most unlikely people. Bram, the top dog of the school, Thayer and Felicity, the weird ones, and Freddie, the film nerd. Rachel sees what makes this club so special from the others, and she is intrigued. But, when accidents with the same face, or a masked face, occur, the club is disrupted. This book follows the journey of Rachel, and how she navigates her life through high society, and how she survives. I rate this book a three stars, because I had high hopes. Overall, it’s a decent mystery book with its own twists and turns. The cover of the book looks like the movie poster of a horror movie, which fits the characters of the book. If you want to read a book that is set in an elitist world and a mystery, this is just the book.
