Thomas wakes up in a box with only his name in his memory. He discovers that he is in a “paradise” like world, with a bunch of other boys in a group called Gladers. They all live in the Glade, which is surrounded by a maze. In the maze are monsters called Grievers, bulbous creatures with spiky appendages designed to kill. The Gladers have all been trapped for two years, and Thomas might be their only key to escape the maze. When the first girl ever arrives in the Glade, and the Grievers start invading the Glade, Thomas and others lead the Gladers in a fight for freedom. This book starts the journey across a series of other books that will keep you guessing until the end.

If you like books with post-apocalyptic settings, this would be perfect for you. I’d recommend it because it had an engaging writing style, and it made me unable to put it down for hours. The Maze Runner is kind of like The Testing because they both have similar plots, like how people get trapped in an unfamiliar environment and have to find their way out. The plot and how the story was written overall was really exciting, however, some parts of it were mildly unsettling (gore). The book has some more mature themes, such as insanity, body horror, and kind of gruesome scenes, so it would probably be 13+.
