The Missing of Clairdelune is the second installment of The Mirror Visitor, right after A Winter’s Promise. Ophelia visits the Court of Farouk, a family spirit with immense power, for protection of her family in exchange for reading Farouk’s ancient Book. However, there seems to be a misunderstanding as she is later appointed Vice-Storyteller. As she gains insight of the terrible reality of Clairdelune’s higher court, there recent disappearances of nobles becomes a concern when Ophelia receives a letter of blackmail from a sender known as “GOD”, who demands her silence and threatens her otherwise. But, in an unfortunate visit to prison and a short marriage, Ophelia realizes that GOD really does exist. And not only does he just exist, he is able to assume the power and appearance of anyone whom he wishes to. However, with his surprise appearance, he also delivers terrifying news: the Other is a being that is worse than him, and Ophelia had released him during her first visit through a mirror. When Thorn
himself becomes a mirror visitor due to the exchange of powers during their marriage, he vanishes into thin air leaving no trace. As Ophelia is forced to leave the Pole and return back home to Anima, she is left with tormenting questions. The most important being: Where is Thorn?

WOW! This was surely a long ride. While I did read this earlier, the book stayed in my mind. The characters, as always, were well done and felt real. Each of their personalities shone clearly and I love the way that no one is truly an “evil” character as they all have justification for their acts (even though some of them are kind of stupid). I loved Thorn and Ophelia’s dynamic and the development of Ophelia and Bernilde’s relationship. Also, I can’t stop appreciating the cover art. You can clearly tell that there was great care taken in creating the cover AND writing the book itself. Sometimes I have no idea how people come up with clever ideas such as the entire plot of this book and series. But I’m not complaining! The only thing   have to complain about is the books aren’t the same size on my shelf… but that may be entirely my fault. This might be the first series that I read where all the books are equally addicting and have good writing- I really hope I don’t jinx it because I still have two books left in the series! :(
