The Near Witch follows the main character, Lexi, in her search for the town’s missing children, attempts to learn more about an unnamed stranger, and questions about whether childhood stories are more than scary tales after all.
I’ve loved The Near Witch for years. The progression, while slow, adds suspense, and the strength of Lexi’s character and V.E. Schwab’s detailed depiction of this small town keep drawing me back (I’ve read it at least three times). The Near Witch may not be as developed as Schwab’s later books—like my all-time favorite series, Shades of Magic—but it’s definitely worth a read and a great introduction to this author.
