Nothing Like the Movies is a realistic fiction young adult romance novel following the destined pair, Wes and Liz. Wes and Liz weren’t like any other high school couple, they and everyone around them knew that they were absolutely perfect for each other. Unfortunately, at the start of their freshman year of college, Wes’s life turns upside down, forcing him to move back to his hometown, Omaha. After months of long-distance, they grow apart unwillingly. But, two years later, Wes gets accepted back into the same college and gets his life back together, also aiming to regain Liz in his new life.
This book is an amazing sequel to Better Than the Movies, but truth be told, this book was a little confusing. There are a lot of POV changes and flashbacks, but the ending wraps it all up in a nice tidy bow! My favorite part of the book is Wes’s huge, romantic gestures for Liz that somehow always ended up in chaos. I definitely recommend reading the first book before this one, but overall, very good. I would recommend this book to 8th/9th graders.
