Thrilling and complex, Karen McManus’s “One of Us is Lying” is a classic whodunnit mystery with a modern edge and plenty of twists and turns as the plot progresses. When Bayview High’s infamous gossip, Simon Kelleher, dies during detention, his fellow classmates are plunged into a criminal investigation in which they are the main suspects.
Who killed Simon? Was it Brownyn Rojas, the brain? Cooper Clay, the athlete? Addy Prentiss, the princess? Or Nate Macauley, the criminal? This twisted reimagining of the classic “Breakfast Club” type group creates a memorable cast of characters that lead the plot line as more and more details are uncovered. I would give “One of Us is Lying” four out of a possible five stars.
