The Outsiders by S.E Hinton features 14-year-old Ponyboy Curtis and his two older brothers, Soda and Darry. Ponyboy struggles with right or wrong in society which makes him think that he is an outsider and the lack of parents in his life also gives his family many difficulties. The Curtis brothers, along with their friends are all a part of a group named the Greasers. Their rivals are the Socs, who are a group of boys from the wealthy side of town. A lot of trouble and violence arises between these two groups. Ponyboy must find a way to survive in this dangerous environment and somehow keep himself and his loved ones safe.
I would give this book four stars. The Outsiders has a very powerful story with a crucial meaning behind it. Hinton does a great job of letting the reader deeply understand the characters. The book is very detailed, and the author makes it very hard to put down. The exciting/suspenseful plotline does a fantastic job of keeping the reader engaged throughout the whole book. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a unique and meaningful story.
