The Outsiders is set in 1965 Oklahoma, centering on two different gangs. This book was loosely based on how life could be during this time and the author wrote this for her friends that were considered the version of greasers in her town. A greaser is a teenager that is considered a delinquent, does not have much money, and is known for their trademark long greasy hair. The gang opposing the greasers is the soc gang. A soc is a rich, socialite privileged person with nice cars, clothes and hair. The two groups fight often and the socs can get away with a lot more things because they have money and are seen as the victims even though it is usually the other way around. When something big happens Ponyboy, a greaser, and Johnny, his best friend, have to run away, but what will happen and will everyone survive? This book includes themes of anticipation, adventure, violence, survival, friendship, loss and family. The conflict in this book is really man vs man with the greasers vs the socs. I would give this book five stars out of five because it was very detailed and I loved the plot and storyline.
