The Outsiders by Francis Ford Coppola is a classic coming-of-age movie. In this movie,
Ponyboy finds himself caught up in the middle of a few too many conflicts. Ponyboy is a
greaser, and being a greaser isn’t easy. He knows he can depend on his brothers, Darry and
Sodapop, and the gang. He also knows not to trust the socs. When Ponyboy’s friend, Johnny,
kills a soc in self-defense, the two boys are forced to go on the run with the help of Dally. Being
a greaser means the police won’t be on your side. Tensions rise between the greasers and
socs, and with the murder still hanging over his head, Ponyboy starts to wonder if everything he
once believed is true. With the help of Cherry and Johnny, Ponyboy begins to realize he isn’t the
only outsider.
I read the Outsiders book before watching the movie. Since I knew what
happened in the book, I was disappointed when some of the scenes were cut from the movie. If
you haven't read the book yet, I think you will really like the movie. I also really liked that the
characters in the movie matched with the characters in the book.
