The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton follows a 14 year old boy named Ponyboy Curtis. There are two
kinds of people in the world: greasers (always have to be cautious and not wealthy) and socs
(wealthy with a lot of attitude). Ponyboy is a greaser and he’s experienced a lot of rumbles with
socs with his other greaser friends. One night, one of his friends murders a soc and the world
around him slowly starts to crumble.
This was a good book. It’s emotional and each character is very well written. There are so many
themes to this book and lets you see how a 14 year old lives. It shows you personal
experiences and there is so much character development throughout the book. I like how we
can see each character get closer to one another. Overall, I think this was a very well written
book. I would definitely recommend this book and think everyone should read it at least once in
their life. I give this book a 4/5.
