Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian is an exciting finale to read with dark themes and raw
action by Rick Riordan. The stakes are higher than ever as the fifth book in the series is about
Percy Jackson preparing for and entering the fight to stop Kronos and Luke from destroying
Olympus. What power is necessary to defeat a Titan? Percy embarks on a dangerous
adventure which all leads to a last stand with his friends Nico, Annabeth, Grover, Tyson and
everyone else to stop and defeat Kronos as the gods fight Typhon.
In my opinion this is nearly as good as the Battle of the Labyrinth. The novel grabs you by the
heart and doesn’t let go. Their is pay off between characters such as Annabeth and Percy. Rick
Riordan finally fleshes out Luke Castellion as a character worth fighting against as we learn his
motivations and purpose. This book shows Percy at his most powerful as he needs to be to
defeat the almighty Kronos. I loved the action and even with how dreary and dark this book can
be it still has the charm and humor to balance it all. What really set this book apart as a finale
was the opening scene which really showed the danger that all the demigods in Camp Half
Blood are in. This novel was paced perfectly and I was left satisfied by the end. I would
recommend this book and the series in general for anyone who loves adventure, fun, and a book
that won’t keep you bored. This book is exciting and fun for children, but serious enough for
teens and adults.
