Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is the beginning to an epic series filled with action, humor, and everything in between. It all starts with Percy Jackson himself, a troubled young teen with his mom as his only other living family member and a seemingly ordinary life. However, that all changes one day when he is suddenly whisked into the wild and confusing world of the Greek gods--and finds out that his very own father is one of them. He soon finds himself in a camp filled with demigods just like him, and all at once, he is exposed to a whole new world that had been hidden before his eyes for the first 12 years of his life. Soon after his arrival to Camp Half-blood, trouble arises as he is accused of stealing Zeus’s master lightning bolt and sent on a quest along with Grover (his best friend) and Annabeth (more of a new acquaintance) to retrieve it in order to prove his innocence.
I first came across this book right after I finished the Harry Potter series and was looking for a brand-new series to start. I had heard good things about the Percy Jackson series from my friends and decided to check out the first book from the library, and from then on, I was rarely seen at home without Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. It was completely impossible to put down! In fact, I ended up liking the first book so much that I read the next four books of the series as well. Definitely one of my favorites, even now. With a fast-moving plotline and plenty of humor to go along with it, The Lightning Thief is perfect for any young teen who loves books filled with action and adventure. I would give this book a solid five stars.
