The story is set in present day America and is about the 13 year old demigod Percy
Jackson and his friends Annabeth and Tyson. They must go on a quest to rescue their friend
Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Cyclops Polyphemus to save Camp Half-Blood
from being destroyed by monsters and titans. On their quest many people and monsters will try
to stop them from succeeding. The main characters are Percy, the son of Poseidon, Annabeth,
the daughter of Athena, and Tyson, a cyclops. The author describes the characters well so you
get a pretty good image of how they look. The characters get well developed and you start to
care for them and see the world from their perspective throughout the book.
In my opinion, this book is good, but not the best in the series. I like the overall plot how
they have to find the Golden Fleece to save Thalia’s tree. I really like Rick Riordan’s word
choice and the fact that he uses common day language. I don’t like how the plot is so small, but
the book is so long. In the end, this book is okay, but I would recommend sticking to the series
and to keep reading because the books get better as you go on.
