In The Perilous Sea, the second book in the Elemental trilogy series by Sherry Thomas,
elemental mage Iolanthe Seabourne and Master of the Domain Prince Titus continue in their
dangerous battle against the Bane, the all-powerful mage ruler of The Realm. Their journey is
fraught with the unveiling of multiple secrets and plot twists, however, which leads Titus to
question everything he had previously accepted as part of his and Iolanthe’s prophecies. The
book intriguingly rotates between timelines and settings at Eton College and the Sahara Dessert,
which I believe kept the pace face and interesting. Previously introduced characters are also
fleshed out and a strong part of the story, with once again the romantic relationship between
Iolanthe and Titus challenged. Iolanthe remains a strong feminine hero, however, who
demonstrates intellect and the ability to save herself. Once again, this installment of the trilogy
has left me anxiously awaiting the final chapter.
