The Princess and the Fangirl was written by Ashley Poston. The genre is YA romance, set at a science fiction convention. The main characters are Jessica Stone and Imogen Lovelace, who look creepily alike. Jessica is a famous actress who started acting when she was 14, and now is working on a beloved series called Starfield as Princess Amara, but it’s well known that she hates being Princess Amara. On the other hand, Imogen is a complete fangirl for the Starfield series and relates to Princess Amara on a very personal level. So when Princess Amara dies on the series, Jessica is thrilled and Imogen is heart-broken. Imogen starts a petition #SaveAmara and Jessica detests it. Jess and Imogen get switched up in a panel, and Imogen completely contradicts Jess’s entire opinion of Starfield and shocks the entire fandom and unknowingly launches Jess into another movie for Starfield, exactly what she was hoping to avoid. Jess throws away her copy of the script, and it starts getting leaked anonymously and forces Jess to switch places with Imogen. Imogen and Jess’s assistant (Ethan) don’t hit it off at first, but they get closer over time, maybe a little too much than they’re supposed to. At the same time, Jess meets Imogen’s online friend Harper, and starts to catch feelings for her. In the midst of all the chaos, Imogen and Jess both have to adjust to the other’s lives for a few days as quickly as possible. I would rate this book a 3 out of 5. I liked the wlw idea, and the other suspects for who could have leaked the script. I never suspected the actual person who did it. I really liked this book, but the start of the book wasn’t very interesting so I didn’t want to read it at first. Once you get past that though, it’s a great book and super fun to read.
