The precursor to a film of the same name, The Princess Bride is a story
about a story - a fairy tale told to a young boy by his father. Of course,
not without lots of editing to ensure that only the good parts are left
in. The reader is left with a tale of swordplay, true love, evil men,
escape from death, and plenty of humor. The story starts with a young
bride whisked away by assassins that plan to kill her and pin her death on
a neighboring country and spark war - though a mysterious Man in Black
seems to have other plans. Throughout the book, betrayals are revealed,
revenge is had, and as always, true love prevails.
This is one of my favorite books of all time and I would highly
highly recommend it. Even without some of the satirical comedic elements
the story would be pretty interesting, and with them it becomes downright
hilarious while simultaneously incredibly engaging. It has more detail
than the movie, so I would recommend it even for those who have already
seen the cult classic. I would give it five stars
