Jude, the new High Queen of Elfhame, has been banished to the mortal world. All Jude wants to do is go back and regain the power that she has lost. Jude’s own banishment keeps her from doing so. However, when Taryn says that she has killed her husband, Locke, and needs Jude to testify for her because of Jude’s geas, Jude cannot help but accept. As Jude enters the court and Cardan learns who she is, she regains the power she thought she lost. But when Cardan proves his loyalty to his kingdom and his queen by breaking the crown, he turns into a deadly serpent. Jude has to handle the kingdom and save her High King without trying to lose either. I thought this was a very fitting ending to Jude and Cardan’s journey to becoming the King and Queen.

I really liked Cardan’s development into a good king, and I also enjoyed Jude’s development in the mortal world. I do believe that the book would have been more well-rounded without some of the stories. Those who like the first two books of this series, fantasy, fantasy romance, and the world of faerie would enjoy reading this book. I rate this a 4 out of 5. I really enjoyed the last of Jude and Cardan’s story and liked seeing their character development.
