Radiohead’s 2007 album In Rainbows somehow manages to go where none of their other works ever did. Musically, it occupies a middle ground between all of their other albums. It is more rock-driven than Kid A or Amnesiac but less so than The Bends or OK Computer. It is more ethereal than anything before it, but far less orchestral than A Moon Shaped Pool. Where In Rainbows shines is its concrete, highly personal lyrics.
The song "Jigsaw Falling into Place" describes a night out on the town, meeting a romantic interest and an eventual missed opportunity. The lyrics, “wish away the nightmare/you’ve got a light, you can feel it on your back” evoke a sense of regret and watching a potential relationship disappear behind you.
Similar themes and lyrics are found throughout the album, making for an incredibly emotional and deep listen that is difficult to forget. If you are a fan of any of Radiohead’s other work or like the idea of deep, introspective music, then this album is probably for you.
