Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross is the sequel to Divine Rivals and continues the gripping tale of Iris Winnow and Roman Kitt as they navigate a world on the brink of war. In this installment, Iris and Roman are drawn deeper into a conflict between gods and mortals, where their personal destinies are entwined with the fate of their world. Iris, armed with her mysterious typewriter that connects her to Roman, must confront the dark god, Dacre, and his ruthless pursuit of power. As secrets unravel and loyalties are tested, the protagonists grapple with love, sacrifice, and the haunting question of whether they can truly change the course of their destiny.

The most compelling aspect was definitely the interplay between Iris and Roman, whose relationship unfolds amongst divine conflict and impending war. Their connection, facilitated by the magical typewriter, felt both unique and deeply emotional, grounding the fantastical elements in genuine human experiences. The middle of the book was paced completely differently than the rest of the book making the book very inconsistent. I would recommend Ruthless Vows to fans of romantic fantasy and those who love stories where mythology meets human emotion. Its rich narrative and complex characters make it a must-read for anyone looking to get lost in a world where the stakes are high, and every decision feels important.
