Sadie is an amazing novel that blends mystery, thriller and social commentary into one story. It is about 19-year-old Sadie Hunter, a girl whose world completely changes after the brutal murder of her little sister, Mattie. With no parents to protect them, Mattie was everything to Sadie. When the police failed to find Mattie’s killer, Sadie takes justice into her own hands, embarking on a dangerous journey to track down the man who was responsible. But as she follows a trail of secrets and danger, she begins to unravel truths more horrifying than ever. At the same time, radio jockey West McCray picks up her story and tries piecing together clues connected to Sadie. This dual perspective—Sadie’s first-person journey and West’s podcast—creates an immersive experience.

I love this book so much because it tackles heavy, important themes such as child abuse, neglect, poverty and the failures of the justice system. I love how it doesn’t sugarcoat the harsh realities that many people, especially women, face. I love Sadie’s character because she is strong yet vulnerable and her story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. The ending is also open-ended, leaving readers aching for more yet understanding the weight of what they’ve just read. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller book that will make you question society because it is an amazing combination of the two.
