The Sea of Monsters is the second book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. It follows the teenage half-blood Percy Jackson, the son of a god and a mortal. Percy’s last day of school is interrupted by his friend, Annabeth, who brings bad news about their magical camp, Camp Half-Blood. In an attempt to save their camp, and all of their half-blood friends who stay there, Percy, joined by Annabeth, and a new friend, ventures out to say his camp. But they face a long, perilous, journey, and they don’t have much time. Can Percy and his friends save their camp?
The Sea of Monsters is a funny, intriguing, and gripping book that you will not want to set down. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Greek Mythology, because of its heavy influence on the book. Riordan even goes as far as filling in plot holes and mysteries that the Greeks never addressed. Overall, I gave this book five stars because it is thrilling, and the end has an interesting twist that can change the course of the next three books that follow.
