Things at Camp Half Blood are looking bad as Thalia’s pine tree has been poisoned by Kronos's forces. The only way to prevent the tree from dying is to venture into the sea of monsters and get the golden fleece. Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon, must sail into the sea of monsters with Annabeth Chase just like the Greek hero Odysseus once did. Percy and Annabeth must hurry up though because Luke is hot on their trail to get the golden fleece and they must rescue Grover from the cyclops, Polyphemus.

I thought that Rick Riordan did an excellent job of retelling The Odyssey in a lively way. This book follows the previous book, The Lightning Thief, in the 5-book series, so make sure to read The Lightning Thief before you read The Sea of Monsters. I loved reading this book because I thought that Rick Riordan did a sensational job of giving the characters distinct personalities. The Sea of Monsters contained many references to Greek mythology, so I would definitely recommend this book to someone who enjoys reading books related to Greek mythology. I would also recommend this book to someone who is in middle school because it might be too fictional for a high schooler and too advanced for someone in elementary school.
