The Serpent & The Wings of Night, written by Carissa Broadbent, is a fantasy story that follows the character Oraya. Oraya is the adopted human daughter of the Nightborne vampire king, and she has been training all her life to fight in the Kejari. The Kejari is a legendary tournament, where people compete against each other to win a grand prize. Oraya, forced to partner with the vampire Raihn, then has to try to win over warriors from other vampire houses, or suffer the fate of death. This is the first book in the duology, and it is action packed!

I actually really enjoyed this book. Its action packed, and there is a lot going on in every chapter. The writing is amazing as well, it really captivated me, and it felt like I was in the story itself. The whole vampire/human trope is often predictable to me, but I really think that the author portrays it amazingly. The first half of the book is a little slow, as the author introduces all the characters, setting, and background information. But it gets super interesting as you read, so don’t put it down! The enemies-to-lovers trope is my favorite trope, and this book is a perfect portrayal of it. The found family and character relationships are shown perfectly as well, and the author balanced all the feelings. Overall, I feel like this book was an amazing first installment in the duology. The only reason I gave this book a 4 is because it was quite slow in the beginning. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, fantasy, and adventure all in one book. It’s a perfect combination of all three.
