The Shadow of What Was Lost by James Islington follows the journey of Davian, a young man who discovers he possesses powerful abilities in a world where magic is feared and controlled. As he grapples with his newfound powers and the secrets of his past, Davian becomes entangled in a web of politics and ancient prophecies. Alongside his friends Wirr and Asha, Davian embarks on a quest to uncover the truth about his heritage and the threat of dark forces that threaten to plunge the world into chaos. The novel explores themes of destiny, sacrifice, and the struggle between light and darkness in a gripping fantasy epic.
One of the most compelling aspects of the book was its ability to blend together elements of magic, political intrigue, and prophecy. The author’s attention to detail in constructing the world of Andarra drew me in from the very beginning, and I found myself immersed in its history. I was slightly disappointed with some arcs of the books not having as much character depth as other arcs, which made it somewhat inconsistent. I would recommend The Shadow of What Was Lost to fans of epic fantasy who enjoy world-building and intricate plotlines. It's perfect for teenagers who want to read a captivating story filled with magic, mystery, and adventure. I give this book a four out of five stars.
