Siddhartha is a unique novel that blends philosophical questions about life with the vast and unique journey of Siddhartha (the character). The book describes Siddhartha’s progression from a little boy to an old man, and his trek in losing faith and purpose, to finding it. Alongside the storyline, this book also questions how a person perceives the world. For instance, knowledge and thought are occurring subjects in the book that encourage the reader to think about what we know and how we know what we know. The book makes us realize that humans will interpret the same object differently from one another, as the colored lens they see from affects the knowledge that is retained in their brain, and the knowledge that may become undermined or exaggerated when stored in the brain. Siddhartha is a literary spiritual experience that a reader should experience at least once in their life. You may not come away from the book agreeing with its contents or message, but you will experience reading experiences that force you to think unlike any other book has prior. Five out of five.
