The Silence of Bones was published 3 years ago in April of 2020, and was written by June Hur. The book is set in the old Korean kingdom of Joseon, the protagonist being a teenage girl named Seol. As a child, her older brother had left home to pursue a life in the capital of the Kingdom. Years later, Seol is sent to the capital as an indentured servant to its police bureau. At the age of 16, she is caught in a web of conflict when a noblewoman is murdered. While attempting to discover the culprit, she’s simultaneously looking for her long lost brother who she’s lost all contact with since her childhood. This book is filled with twists and turns in the plot, an example of which is when the prime suspect for the killing is none other than a police inspector from the bureau. Will everything work out?

I really enjoyed this book, because the author pays careful attention to every minute detail pertaining to the crime. This kept me on my toes and engaged at every moment of the read. However, there are some aspects to the book that seem to make the ending somewhat predictable, which diluted the fun in the read ever so slightly. Nevertheless, this book was great, and I rate it a 4 out of 5.
