The Pearl Wars is a mediocre book. I really love the world the author creates; the situation of earth and the fight between two different entities is a very interesting idea. Another thing I like about this book is the use of two perspectives. The characters, though interesting, did not feel likable and the story is not executed well. The book has many “slow” chapters which were caused by the addition of too many setbacks. I am not sure how many setbacks there are, but I was getting annoyed by the constant problems faced by the characters, which led to boring long chapters where the main characters are progressing slowly and building up speed only to face another setback and slow down. I get that setbacks add more action and drama, but it is a bit too much, it drags and stretches the book and reduces the quality of the story. The big twist of the book is also really predictable, this is bad because the whole book was building up to this moment. This book had a lot of potential. It is still a decent read and I would recommend it to Sci-fi lovers, I give this book a 3.5 out of 5.
