This book is truly amazing. The Sun Is Also a Star is written from two
different perspectives; Natasha and Daniel. Natasha is less of a dreamer,
more of a realistic thinker. She’s just trying to keep her family from being
suddenly deported to Jamaica. Daniel, on the other hand, is a poet of all
that’s good in life. He’s been trying to live up to his parents expectations his
whole life.
“There’s a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesn’t mean love at
first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s the feeling when you meet
someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love
them right away, but it’s inevitable that you will.”
― Nicola Yoon, The Sun Is Also a Star
This book is so touching and emotionally uprooting. It’s thought-provoking,
seeing different situations from other perspectives. I think I was laughing and
crying at the same time during this book. I especially love a book that’s so
well-written it can draw you right in from just the first chapter. And when
characters have depth and perspective, it's another level. Nicola Yoon wrote
this book with so much heart and soul, it’s an emotional journey.
Although I didn’t completely love the ending, I have almost nothing bad to
say about this book. There were no boring parts, no dull characters, and
although the story takes place throughout just one day, it feels like years.
This book is amazing, loving, hilarious, and everything I had hoped it would
be. If you like romance books, you will not regret reading this amazing story.
“We are capable of big lives. A big history. Why settle? Why choose the
practical thing, the mundane thing? We are born to dream and make the
things we dream about.”
― Nicola Yoon, The Sun Is Also a Star
While the story is told mainly from Natasha’s and Daniel’s perspectives,
there are some chapters that are about completely different people. And
though I didn’t love that it took away time from the main story, I think that it
added something special. I don’t normally like that kind of thing in a book,
but every time it went to the side stories, it was a different person, with their
own problems and views on life. I think that really helped this book stand
out.
Overall, if you like romance books, I would definitely suggest this one. Of all
the books I’ve read, all of Nicola Yoon’s books stand out. They all have a
certain element of life within them, and you really can’t go wrong reading
them. The Sun Is Also a Star has perspective, love, family expectations,
radiance, and so much more.
