The Sun and the Star, by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro, is an installment in the Percy Jackson franchise focusing on Nico di Angelo and Will Solace.
Nico and Will have just finished dealing with Apollo's trials in the previous books and are looking forward to a relaxing time at Camp Half-Blood but Nico feels something calling out to him and he think he knows what it is. Will and Nico prepare for a quest that will test their strength, mentally and physically, as well as the bond of their relationship. The Sun and the Star is an interesting read, yet it doesn't have the spark that previous Riordan novels have. Although the characters are familiar, some, Nico in particular, seemed to be quite different from how he is traditionally portrayed without a proper transition from one personality to the next. Furthermore, some of the efforts to further inclusion in the book feels forced rather than natural. As a result, I enjoyed this book significantly less than the amount to which I enjoyed Riordan's other novels.
However, The Sun and the Star is a good read for those who have been fans of Riordan's novels and want to delve back into the world of demigods and monsters
